Office Project Room is pleased to announce the solo exhibition by Francesco Fonassi (Milan, 1983), in dialogue with the work ‘Concetto spaziale, ovale’(1978) by Lucio Fontana (Rosario, Argentina, 1899 – Varese, Italy, 1968). The show continue the exhibition cycle Dialoghi– a project that establishes a dialogue between younger and more established artists, where respective working methodologies, references, and subtle and explicit influences and resemblances are renewed in each exhibition moment.
For the Office Project Room Francesco Fonassi establishes a close dialogue with ‘Concetto spaziale, ovale’ by Lucio Fontana, a ceramic piece made in 1968. Secondo distretto– the core of the presented works – arises from a perpetual interest in the development of war technology and its derivations, the techniques and methods of shooting and diffusion of sound in space and the falsified, popular panorama of the so-called pseudosciences, in a relationship between the body, mind and architecture that is almost never balanced.
Instances such assender-receiver,shield, inset, barrier, andsensory leakage are revealed in a configuration of synthesis as forms and prototype forces. Fonassi starts a model reduction path, imagining an urbanised district where buildings are designed to bring the inhabitants together according to experimental and dissociated practices, typical of psycho-physics, acoustic persistence and radiophony. An array of scalable, rational and mental devices and infrastructures.

Forming a primarily ethical relationship with knowledge and with others, the work of Francesco Fonassi acts on the dynamics of perception, forcing reality to clash with the devices of separation and interaction that are implied by and express a general feeling. He does this by focusing on the human tendency to submit or react to forms of aggression and isolation, interruption and duration, through the experience of listening, which he takes as a threshold on which to explore relationships of activity and passivity, and beyond which to trace out realms of co-belonging. Through actions, recordings, environmental configurations, radio transmissions, listening sessions, live performances, and the creation of audiovisual and sensory spaces, Fonassi gives tangible form to the place where knowledge and imagination flow into each other, and the image – whether mathematical, visual or auditory – takes on a function of actualization. Linking together different forms of knowledge, Fonassi designs the space for a multitude of subjects that are no longer passive, both perceiving and perceived, susceptible to developing ways of holding together and resisting inclusion in a self-sufficient whole, be it acoustic or social.
Lucio Fontana (Rosario, Argentina, 1899 – Varese, Italy, 1968), is internationally renowned as one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century. His work was a major influence for subse- quent generations of artists, and its originality continues to resonate today.
